I might not be motivated to go out and rally with the Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn folks. On almost any given day, I will prioritize having a tasty meal out over donating to a inarguably worthy cause. I would never bother to attend the public hearings that proceed the latest MTA fare hike. Basically, I'm your typical, spoiled and apathetic member of the citizenry. But, by God, mess with my right to eat a cupcake, and there will be hell to pay! And, according to the NYT, we cupcake warriors are legion. The Texas Legislature, world-renowned for their commitment to fighting the good fight, passed a "Safe Cupcake Amendment." Who would want to imperil the nation's cupcakes, you ask? Communists. Communists and, apparently, the godless nutritionists. Cupcakes: something else I'll eat when I get back to BK.

I was watching NY1 this morning (yes I know you miss it so)-- and they were doing a poll on the most overrated foods in NY-- (a) Magnolia Cupcakes; (b) Pinkberry Yogurt and (c) Carnegie Subs. I think the public voted for Magnolia Cupcakes. I personally do not enjoy the Magnolia half as much as my favorite LES cupcake purveyor, Sweet Sugar Sunshine. In fact, talking about them right now makes me drool in the mouth. I am thinking about dashing out to get some. Sadly, I will be chained to my desk for the next couple of days. :(
If I can't have cupcakes, then no one will!

I read this the other day in disbelief. Cupcakes are the perfect dessert. I can't wait to try a place near me although I think they go a little too heavy on the decorations. Frosting is enough for me-hold les sprinkles and the rest of that chazerei. Why attack the cupcake? Little delicious cupcake. So tiny yet so omnipotent.
Our cafeteria makes these truly amazing cupcakes. They used to make them only once a week, which was great, b/c if you decided to be virtuous on that day, it was another week before temptation presented itself again. And if you decided to have one, you could justify it by saying you wouldn't have another one for a week. Then we got a giant new cafeteria with more cooking space, and so, because the cupcakes are so beloved, they started making them everyday. Waistlines are expanding around the firm. But people are happy.
The cupcake is powerful, but those powers are always used for good. Their like the Wonder Woman of sweet snacks. And I agree about the minimalist approach to decorating/frosting. It's all about proportion. That's why I've gone off Buttercup Bakeshop. They've gone crazy with the frosting. Too much.
